PHILIP ALEXANDER And The WiLD THiNGS!

Multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter and popular local children’s entertainer Philip Alexander performs his zany original children’s music spiced up with some hilarious interactive stories. Children sing, dance and laugh with this delightful, crowd-pleasing show! A musical treat, featuring guitar, harmonica, ukulele, djembe drum, handbells, ocarina, and boomwhackers!  You will be inspired by this unique and talented performer: solo, with his musical family, or with the full band! Sound system included.  For children ages 2 to 10 and the grown-ups who love to play with them.

Options include:

  • “The Sing Play Grow Show!" - Philip Alexander leads a lively sing-and-dance-along show
  • “The Family Singers” – Philip’s wife Joanna (vocalist and professional Music Therapist at Children’s Hospital Boston)  and daughter Sophia (member Boston Children’s Chorus Concert Choir)  provide rich harmonies and dance moves
  • “Strike Up the Band!” – Go for the big show! Bass, drums, accordion, sax, fiddle and back-up singers, or any combo thereof, make for a rockin’ concert!

OMG! Philip was the best part of the Polar Express! He sang and entertained our guests for 3 hours. I highly recommend him!
The parents loved him, the kids adored him and the staff were impressed!!! He made our jobs much easier!

Philip Alexander and The Wild Things (plus Family Singers) made for a fun day. The full band led a family concert filled with energy, smiles, enthusiasm, singing, and dancing. Adults and children engaged together and were  happy to enjoy their beautiful music! Thank you to Philip, his family, and the band for making our event such a success!

Philip warmed up a cold winter day at Westwood Public Library with his catchy songs that had everyone dancing and singing along. Philip had rave reviews from both children and adults who loved hearing some old favorites as well as some brand new tunes. We are still being asked for more programs with Philip.

– Loretta Eysie, Children’s Librarian
Westwood Public Library

For our show, Philip Alexander performed with an accordion player and a drummer. The three kept the young crowd engaged for an entire hour! Philip encouraged lots of dancing and singing along to both traditional and original songs.  There was a wide range of musical styles and plenty of laughter!

Around the world in music

Travel the globe in song, dance and story!  Begin with “Jambo”, a song which teaches the audience to say “Hello” in Swahili, French, Spanish, Indian, Hawaiian, and a dozen other languages!  Travel to the “Bahamas In Your Pajamas”! Make tortillas in Mexico with “Senorita Rita”. Test your memory and dancing ability in the traditional Irish “Rattlin’ Bog”.  Sing about “Two Funny Tigers” in Chinese.  Laugh at the clever and courageous rabbit with no common sense in the African folktale “How Zomo Earned His Wisdom”.  This program features many instruments, many languages, and one theme: we are all a family “Under One Sky!”

Adaptable to fit audiences ages 3 – 10.

I highly recommend Philip Alexander as a Musician, Educator, and Entertainer.  As part of our International Week, we invited Philip to perform for our preschool, kindergarteners, and one of our special needs classes.  We all loved it!  He kept the children (and teachers) ACTIVELY ENGAGED for a FULL hour! The time flew! His show had lots of variety:  songs from China, France, Mexico and Australia, among others; a balance of message songs like “Under 1 Sky” and active dance songs like “Senorita Rita” and the “Kangaroo Hop” freeze dance. The narrative folktale –  “How Zomo The Rabbit Got Wisdom” –  really captured the children’s attention!  As one of the children was dancing happily to the music, she turned to me and said, "This is the best day of my life!"

Tales of Wonder! A MUSICAL Storytelling Show

Mountains Of Toys!  Wisecracking Rabbits! Dancing Bananas! SAY WHAT?!!?  Your kids will love it! Philip performs whimsical original and folkloric stories with humor, flair and soundscapes to spark the imagination.   Each tale has call-and-response or song and movement built-in to provide plenty of opportunities for audiences to join in and become part of the story.

All Ages.

Philip is a well-loved music teacher/performer in Brookline.  He can work with any age group focusing on music, storytelling and/or a combination.  For our library, he performed his “Tales Of Wonder” program which was attended by over 120 adults and children. His musical stories get the children dancing, jumping and spinning around! I've heard rave reviews about him for years and after seeing him tell stories, sing and play a multitude of instruments yesterday: I can vouch for their accuracy!

Musical party games: Let’s Dance! Let’s PLAY!

Long before computers, television and video games, kids found ways to have fun playing together.  Really? How???  Singing games! Traditional American play-party games like ‘Frog In The Bucket’, ‘Little Johnny Brown’ or international games like ‘Un Elefante!’ (Mexico) provide a joyful and physical way for participants to create a positive social dynamic.  With music and movement as a framework, each individual gets the chance to shine and contribute to the success of the group.

Ages: 4-10

Honk, Rattle and Roll! A Modern Mother Goose

Traditional rhymes feature a wealth of language that delights a young child’s ear and stimulates the mind to acquire language acquisition.  Children, teachers, and parents will sing, clap and dance to these classic poems, but with a twist! Philip Alexander has composed 15 original musical settings, breathing new life into old words. Blues, swing, waltz, bluegrass, and even hip-hop provide a rich musical palette for these colorful vignettes!

Ages: 1-5

  • I Can Be Me

  • One Planet Is All We've Got

Reviews

"Thank you for entertaining the children of my Extended Day Programs.  Your performance was such a  treat for each of three groups of sixty to eighty children aged 5 to 11 years old.  Your activities, songs and stories were truly enjoyed!  The children were kept engaged in your show, and participated in a fun and appropriate manner. The children listened, sang, danced and enjoyed! I look forward to your coming back to our programs next year.  Thank you!"

– Ellen G. Morse, Director
Extended Day Program, Swampscott Public Schools

"Philip's visit to the Goodnow Library brought a delightful afternoon of music and motion. Lead by Philip's contagious enthusiasm, children and their adults sang and danced to tunes both new and familiar.  The program was well paced and thoughtfully balanced to provide all with ‘catch your breath time’ as well as energetic ‘dance, sing, and spin time’.  Great fun for all.   We look forward to Philip's return visit."

– Barbara Gariepy, Children’s Librarian
  Goodnow Public Library, Sudbury MA

"A huge thank you for your wonderful music on Tuesday evening! Everyone: parents, children, teachers, staff raved about your time with us. The song you chose for the parent-child song was perfect—so welcoming and engaging. And as one of the principal’s said, you were “magic” with the children. Thank you for coming on such short notice and for being patient as we figured out the schedule for the evening. We appreciated your efforts to help us make the evening so enjoyable for everyone.  Thanks again."

– Britta McNemar, Director
Waltham Family School

“Thank you for the wonderful work you did with our students here at the Cambridgeport School.  It was such a pleasure to have you join our  third and fourth graders to share your craft with them.  We especially appreciated learning your anti-bullying song “You Can’t Do That To Me!” and sharing it with our All School Share.”
